The story

An old stone hamlet, brought back to life

Villa Pierle sits in the small hamlet of Colle, on a forested hillside above the Val di Pierle. It lies in the municipality of Cortona, close to the border with Umbria. The ruins of the medieval castle of Pierle, the Rocca di Pierle, stand about 2 km to the south.

Our family restored the buildings in 2019 and 2020. We kept the stone walls, the open fireplaces and the wooden beams. We added modern bathrooms, a full kitchen and a saltwater pool.

From the pergola, the pool terrace and the tower, you look out over wooded hills in every direction. Guests write about the views more than anything else.

The estate has about 372 m² of living space in four separate buildings. Six double suites sleep 12 people, and each suite has its own bathroom. All the suites and all the shared rooms have air conditioning. The property comes with 17,000 m² of land (about 4.2 acres). It includes a garden of about 500 m², and forest surrounds the estate.

There is room to add four more suites within the existing buildings, and possibly a fifth in the tower, for up to 11 suites in total.

Good to know before you visit

  • The last 2.7 km are a gravel road, ending with a steep climb. We recommend a four-wheel drive or another car with high ground clearance. Many guests say it is worth it, and that it gets easy after the first drive.
  • Mobile signal is weak inside the houses. Internet runs on satellite and the mobile network.
  • Villa Pierle is part of a small hamlet, so other houses stand close by.
  • You are in nature. Expect insects and the odd wild boar.

"The moment you arrive, every bit of that drive becomes 100% worth it."

On an in-person visit we can meet you where the paved road ends and drive you up.
